One Dog And 79 Commandos Kill Osama Bin Laden

"According to The New York Times, the team that killed Osama bin Laden was comprised of 79 commandos and one dog.   Of the 80 member team that was deployed to take down bin Laden, few draw more speculation than the one on four legs

The heroic pooch was strapped to a Navy SEAL as they were lowered from a hovering helicopter.The news of the dog's use in the raid broke Wednesday, but like the other members of the team that was deployed, its identity remains unknown.

While the dog is known for its bomb-sniffing prowess, it has other capabilities that make it a wonderful dog-of-war. The dog may have been trained to "sniff out enemy troops from up to 2 miles away."  (I wonder if it is because they don't use Deodorant!)

The sensory perception brought by these dogs in a wartime situation is unparalleled. “The capability they bring to the fight cannot be replicated by man or machine,” General David H. Petraeus said last year, calling for more use of dogs.

No news yet on what breed he or she was, or what role the dog played in the mission."

How to calm the hectic dog.
"A big problem for many dog owners is the hectic, crazy dog.  The dog that literally blows a gasket every time he sees another dog, person, bird, squirrel or  leaf blowing by.
When it comes to calming the hectic dog, it's important to understand how reinforcement works.
Webster defines reinforcement as: An event, a circumstance, or a condition that increases the likelihood that a given
response will recur in a situation like that in which the reinforcing condition originally occurred.
Basically, when we reinforce a behavior, the behavior gets stronger.
 
What most people don't understand is that reinforcement comes in two forms:
Intentional reinforcement and UN-intentional reinforcement.
A lot of the behaviors that we don't like have been unintentionally reinforced by the owner.
For example, the dog starts to bark and pull and become uncontrollable. The owner starts to pull back on the leash
and starts to say things like: "Stop that," "Stop pulling," "Bad boy," "No," "Don't pull," "Quit it," and on it goes.
Same thing happens with jumping. The dog jumps and gets some form of attention. Barking is often reinforced by
the owner shouting at the dog. My friend and psychotherapist, Gena, tells me often that negative attention is better than no attention.

So we have to be very careful about unintentionally reinforcing the behaviors we don't like.
When I walk into a classroom full of dogs and their owners, the first thing I have the owners do is to stop talking to their dogs UNLESS the dog is doing exactly what they want the dog to do.
If their dog is standing politely at their side and there is no tension in the leash, if they are not straining and barking at the other dogs, then and only then do they talk and pet their dog.
If the dog pulls, I instruct them to simply pull back on the leash and to put some slack into the leash. Pull back and get the leash to go slack.
The amazing thing that happens when you do this is that the less you struggle, the faster you gain control.
So your homework is to go to a park or a place that is not too busy (you don't want to make it too difficult in the beginning) and practice with your dog.
Find a spot and just stand there with your dog. When your dog becomes excited and starts to pull, don't say anything, don't get ruffled and simply pull back on the leash and put some slack into it.
Repeat this and in a few minutes you'll see a big change in your dog. Once your dog relaxes, then and only then do you turn on the verbal and physical praise.

Give it a try and see for yourself.  I guarantee you'll be impressed with your dog and yourself."   By Eric Letendre.

Yesterday:

I thought I was going to have a quiet day piddling around catching up on things, such as a mass of emails, defrosting the deep freeze, coloring my hair, bathing and grooming Misty, etc.    Also, I wanted to make some alterations to my full size bedspread, and make it narrower.    I have been trying, unsuccessfully to find a twin one that would match the color scheme.  The twin comforter I bought last winter is great, but too hot for this time of year.  My dogs, and sometimes cats, sleep in beds under my bed, but when I am counting noses to see if everybody is present and correct, the bedspread is too long.

But first I had to oil my sewing machine, as it hadn't been used for a long time.  Book in hand, I went through all the steps, unscrewing the top, oiling the parts in there, on the sides and undercarriage, too.  I laid the bedspread out on my bed and was pinning it up to the desired width, when my son, Kevin showed up, big box in hand.  It contained enough chicken fajitas and fixings, for a family of 4.

After we had eaten some of it, he said he had come to help me with the 12v. wiring on the cargo trailer.  That was a great Mother's Day gift.  But first, I had to start my old B+ motor home, as that is the only vehicle here with a 7-pin plug on it. We used to tow a 20 foot HiLo travel trailer behind it when we had guests visiting from England who wanted to go on sight seeing trips.   Sometimes just in TX and LA, and sometimes as far as Colorado Springs, CO, and Big Bend, TX. 
That way they had a place away from our pets, with separate bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, and their morning tea brewing. We would leave the travel trailer in the campground, and sightsee in the fully equipped 20' B+ motor home, it even has 9 seatbelts, so choices of seats are very optional!    We were never charged double for having two rigs, but setting up and leaving was easy, as often we would just hook-up them up to power, if only there for one night.

As I wasn't expecting this, that got me into high gear, putting a charger on the chassis battery.  I have been lax in my RV starting lately, so getting it going was not that easy, and Kevin had to take the B+'s van engine cowling moved enough to get some gas in the carb.  We made sure we had some good extinguishers handy, in case it backfired.  It has an auxiliary electric fuel pump, but for some reason, it wasn't clicking.  Jay knows where those wires are underneath, so I will ask him to check and see if some 'meeces' have been at work.

It roared to life at the first spin, and after letting it warm up, I drove it around and backed it onto the side lot driveway, where the cargo trailer is.   Kevin plugged in the cargo trailer pigtail, but no running lights. I had a copy of the schematic for a 7-pin plug and eventually, he determined that the plug on the end of the trailer cord was at fault. 

So he went inside the trailer to see how the 12v. lights were doing.  I reconnected the trailer battery, as we keep it disconnected so that no one will touch the power jack, as we have the trailer exactly level, and on jacks, to keep it steady during the cabinet building.   Kevin was very miffed that wire color coding had not been used on the wires coming out of the trailer to the pigtail, and even spray painted some red wires black, and black wires red!   He fiddled and checked wires for ages, but we never really got it all resolved.
 
I sure was worn out from all the climbing in and out of rigs. I had to go to bed with my bedspread still in pins, but I did change them to safety pins, as there is no telling when I will get back to that!

It was a great time to spend some time with my son on Mother's Day.

Osama Bin Laden and the Book of Esther   

"Regarding the death of Osama Bin Laden, I’m grateful for many reasons but not gleeful. When I watched on TV people gathering around the White House and in Times Square in New York to cheer, chant and dance, one part of me felt like joining in and another part of me felt disturbed as I remembered Proverbs:24:17-18 [17] Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:[18] Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. which warns, “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.”

It’s good to see an evil person brought to justice. But keep in mind the difference between a sense of justice and an attitude of revenge. Seeking vengeance is God’s job and He doesn’t approve someone is trying to do His job (Hebrews:10:30-31 [30]For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.[31] It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.).

The celebrating made me think of the story in the book of Esther that ends up with all Jews and their friends celebrating. So I just re-read the book to compare the events in that story with the life and death of Bin Laden. There are important similarities and important differences.

The setting of the book is the powerful Medo-Persian empire that stretched from India to Ethiopia and, in particular, the capital of Shushan (aka Susa) in the area that is now Iran. King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, a proud and evil man, to be second in command and ordered everyone to bow and pay homage to Haman. Because a Jew named Mordecai would not bow before him, Haman became so infuriated that the thought of killing only Mordecai was a revenge not sufficiently satisfying. He became determined to kill all Jewish people in the entire empire.

The story is fascinating, better than any fiction. The first cousin of Mordecai, a beautiful young Jewish woman named Esther, becomes queen. She, working in cooperation with Mordecai, exposes Haman’s evil plot. Esther and Mordecai become the saviors of the Jewish people.

It’s a story of amazing poetic justice. Haman had gallows built upon which to hang Mordecai and Haman ends up getting hanged on those gallows. Mordecai is promoted to be second in command. The scheme of slaughtering all Jews is turned into a strategy for killing many of the enemies of the Jews. In the capital city 500 enemies were killed and throughout the empire 75,000 enemies were killed (Esther:9:16 But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,). From the story, it seems no Jews died, so obviously God was fighting on their side!

All the Jews immediately celebrated and Mordecai made it official that the Jews would from then on have an annual two-day celebration which became known as the feast of Purim.

That series of events is quite significant. If Haman’s plot to annihilate all Jews had been successful, there would be virtually no Jews after that. Christ the Savior could not have been born into the tribe of Judah to fulfill that prophecy because there would no longer be a tribe of Judah. There would not have been a Jewish nation and temple for Jesus to come to. The first Christians would not have been Jewish.

Satan the devil has tried many things to interfere with God’s plan for mankind. There have been many efforts to exterminate Jews and Israelites, including Hitler’s attempt. Think of Herod’s attempt to kill Jesus when He was a baby. Think of Satan’s “success” in influencing the Jewish and Roman leaders to kill Christ.
Now let’s think of some comparisons with Osama Bin Laden. Haman despised the Jews. Osama despised the Jews and all their allies and supporters.

Bin Laden and his followers had some successes. However, I believe that God has performed miracle after miracle to protect the U.S. and other western nations from terrorist attacks. With so many enemies just “dying to” kill us, it’s amazing and inspiring that there has not been a lot more death and destruction from terrorist attacks than what there has been.

Esther proclaimed a 3-day fast, obviously to seek the favor and help of God (Esther:4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.). Many people have been sincerely praying for God’s mercy, help and protection from terrorists.

Haman was eventually killed, plus 10 of his sons. Osama was eventually killed, along with one son.

In Esther’s day, the Jews celebrated, but why? It was not because of the death of enemies nearly as much as it was about their own survival!

“The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor” (Esther:8:16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.). Mordecai established “that they should celebrate yearly the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar, as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor” (9:21-22).

The focus of celebration was not the death of one arch-enemy. Haman “had plotted against the Jews to annihilate them” (9:23). They were celebrating the profound relief and joy at knowing they were not going to be annihilated after all!

Wouldn’t this day be ultra-joyous if we knew there were no more followers of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, Hezbollah, or other terrorist organizations?! If there was no more plots or even desires to destroy Israel (that they call “the little Satan”) or the United States (that they call “the great Satan”)?!

The death of Osama Bin Laden is significant for concrete reasons and psychological reasons, but it’s only a small success when one thinks of all of today’s threats to peace and security.

May the King of kings soon return to earth to defeat all would-be murderers and establish real peace on earth!"

The announcement of Bin Laden's death comes on the same day the death of Adolph Hitler was announced in Berlin.
Now let’s think of some comparisons with Osama Bin Laden.
Hitler despised the Jews.
Osama despised the Jews and all their allies and supporters.
Can we not take some hope in divine justice from this fact?

Yesterday:

Jay and I went shopping.  As we drove all the way south of Conroe to Camperland to get Dicor caulk and 3 feet of silver Eternabond, we were near the Salvation Army Thrift Shop.  But they were rearranging the goods in the store, so everything in housewares had been put up, so we left there empty-handed.
 
On to Lowes for each of us to return items, pick up some latches for the cabinet doors in the cargo trailer, and get some ideas for plumbing the drain for the sink in the trailer.  I hadn't found anything I wanted for that at Camperland.   I think I have what I need in my shed.  Jay bought some more cedar boards, on sale, for something he is making for his mother.
  
We quickly looked around in three thrift shops.  Jay bought some T-shirts, shoes, sandals, and knick-knacks.  I was going to buy some tops and pants, at a half-price sale, until I realized that until I clear out some older clothes, I don't really have any more room.

We went to China Buffet to get just a bite of lunch of $3.50 a pound 'to-go' boxes, rather than pay for the sit-down buffet.  It was almost time for them to switch over to the dinner menu, so the buffet was not being replenished, and it was surprisingly greasy.  We picnicked under a shade tree in the parking lot, and threw scraps to the waiting birds.
The cooler weather is over, the high was 91, even though the low had been 50 deg, so the AC was welcomed in the van.

China Buffet's food is usually very good, but I am not used to a lot of grease, so it left me feeling uneasy for the rest of the day.

Feds Consider Blasting More Levees As Water Continues To Rise.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- "Flood worries that prompted the U.S. government to blast open a Missouri levee to ease pressure on some towns are rippling down the Mississippi River, leading to more evacuations and unease as the Army Corps of Engineers weighs whether to purposely inundate more land with water.
The breach of southeastern Missouri's Birds Point levee was heralded by some Illinois towns along the Ohio River as a needed relief from record flooding, and the man who ordered that action says he may do the same with other Mississippi River spillways as flood prospects mount."

My heart and prayers go out to those who have dirty, muddy water rushing through their houses, if their homes are even still there!
After rebuilding from a fire, my house had only been finished for 6 months, when it went through a 100 year flood in 1994. So I know what they are going through.
But is is going to be very hard for those who lost loved ones, as well as their homes.  Maybe our prayers will comfort them.

Bin Laden Raid Discovery: Al Qaeda Considered Attacking U.S. Train On 9/11 Anniversary

"Holed up in a compound in Pakistan, Osama bin Laden was scheming how to hit the United States hard again, according to newly uncovered documents that show al-Qaida plans for derailing an American train on the upcoming 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The confiscated materials reveal the rail attack planning as of February 2010. One idea outlined in handwritten notes was to tamper with an unspecified U.S. rail track so that a train would fall off the track at a valley or a bridge. Counterterrorism officials said they believe the plot was only in the initial planning stages, and there is no recent intelligence about any active plan for such an attack."

"Pakistan is criticizing the United States for what it calls an "unauthorized unilateral action" into their country; the raid by Navy SEALS that that killed Osama bin Laden. The Pakistani government is upset that American authorities did not tell them in advance of the raid on bin Laden’s compound in a town that houses some of their own top military officials.
The American government said that the mission was kept a secret because of security issues, which is a nice way of saying “We didn’t trust you bastards not to tip off bin Laden before we got there.”

Who give’s a rat fart what Pakistan thinks? There is no way they didn’t know that the world’s most wanted fugitive was hiding inside the walled compound where he was killed in the raid. I mean, it isn’t like he was hanging out in a cave in the hinterlands, as was long believed. He was right there in the middle of a freaking town! Again, a town known as a center for the country’s military elite. Intelligence reports indicate that he has been there for years.

American officials have said for years that they believed that at least some upper echelon Pakistani government officials knew bin Laden’s whereabouts. And the country’s security forces have long been suspected of being in bed with the very militants we are fighting in Afghanistan.

All of this while the United States has been subsidizing Pakistan with billions of dollars a year in foreign aid. Yep, your tax dollars at work. Tax money we could be spending right here at home to support welfare mothers and greedy oil companies. (Well, we know they’re not going to give any of it back to us, right?)

Sometimes I’m not sure who our real enemies are.
But I’m pretty sure of who our friends aren’t! And Pakistan is not our friend. It’s a pissant little country in a region that is the armpit of the world. A Kid's Life in Pakistan


"Haai! Maaee naem iz Krishn'aa.  That's Punjabi for, "Hi!  My name is Krishna." 
Punjabi is the language we speak here in Pakistan.  I am an 11 year old girl, and I live with my four sisters, one brother, and my mother and father.  Would you like to know what it is like to live here in Pakistan?  Well, first of all I think you should know where Pakistan is located in the world.  It is a small country in southern Asia.

The temperature here can get really HOT!  In central Pakistan the summers can get up to 120°F.  That is HOT!
Also we only get 10 inches of rain a year!  That is not enough for farmers (including my father) to grow crops.  There are many dams built to save up the water.

The wildlife here is amazing!  In the south, there is the Indus River.  In the murky waters of the river, the crocodiles dwell.  Scary huh?  Also, many animals live on the banks of the river.  These animals are boars, deer and porcupines.  In central Pakistan, there are jackals, hyenas, and a bunch of different wild cats.  (My brother claims he's seen a panther, but I don't believe him.)  There are a bundle of Marco Polo sheep near  where we live.  There are also Urial sheep, Markhor and Ibex goats, Himalayan bears, and snow leopards.  Many animals are killed.  I once saw my neighbor shoot one of his sheep.  I couldn't bear it!  Because of poaching, there are wildlife sanctuaries to protect the animals.  I love animals, and I think it is a great idea.

Now I will tell you about our clothes.  The men wear baggy pants that get narrow at the ankles.  They are called salwar.  They also wear long shirts that hang down to their knees, called kameez.  Woman wear scarves on their heads called dupattas.  In the big cities, we would wear western style clothes.
 
About 90% of our people are Muslim, including me.  Muslims are people who practice the Islam religion.  We all follow our holy book called the Koran and believe in one God called Allah.
 
Our houses only have one floor.  Our roofs are very flat.  Inside there is no running water and no electricity.  We get our heat from a fire.  There are no windows.  My sisters, brother, my parents, and my grandparents all live in one house.  Most Pakistanis live that way.

This might sound strange to you, but less than half of the kids between the ages of five and nine go to school.  If they do go to school, the boys and the girls are taught separately.  This is one of the customs of the Koran.  Many of the adults cannot read or write.  My parents can't, and I don't know very many people who can.
     
After we finish our chores, we go to the beach.  I always ride the camel.  Camels give rides on the beach.  They are decorated with very festive blankets and beads.  Also, we play games like hopscotch, marbles, and also team games like cricket, soccer, and volleyball.  One of my favorite pastimes is making kites and then flying them.  Otherwise we do not have many toys.

Would you like to know about the food?  Well, because of the Koran, there are a lot of things that we cannot eat.  We can't eat anything from a pig.  Any meat that we do eat has to be butchered and prepared by a specially trained butcher.  My favorite food is a lot of meat, with a very thick sauce made of garlic, chili, and ginger.  It's delicious!  We also eat a lot of vegetables like eggplant, cauliflower, and peas.  Our bread is very flat.  It is called Nan.  For drinks we have water and strong tea.

I would like to tell you about some of my favorite places.  I love to go sailing on Keenjhar, our lake.  My father likes to go fishing on it too.  I go for picnics at Jallo park, which has a lake, zoo, and a picnic area.

Bank of Mexico buys 100 tons of gold in two months    By Rhiannon Hoyle

May 4, 2011, 12:22 p.m. EDT. LONDON (MarketWatch) -- "Mexico's central bank purchased almost 100 metric tons of gold in February and March, another signal that emerging markets are likely to steadily raise their gold reserve holdings, industry participants say.  According to the data, the central bank of Mexico bought 93.3 tons of bullion over the two-month period, vastly increasing its total reserves, which stood at just 6.9 tons in January.
"Prior to this, they held very little metal, so it is a decent size change," Spall said. "People are going to view this as bullish, and will now be closely watching other countries in the region, and elsewhere, for further changes."

"Mexico seems to be following the trend established by several other central banks recently and is moving toward restoring a prior balance between gold and currency reserves," said George Milling-Stanley, Managing Director of Government Affairs at the WGC.
The Bank of Mexico traditionally holds most of its reserves in U.S. dollar-denominated investments.

The main source of reserves is oil revenue, as the bank changes dollars for state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos. The bank also uses put options to buy up to $600 million a month from commercial banks when the peso is appreciating against the U.S. dollar.
The peso is currently trading at its strongest level against the dollar since early October 2008, closing Tuesday at MXN11.5620 after dipping below MXN11.50 in recent sessions.
Foreign reserves were a record $125.8 billion as of April 29.

May IMF data also show continued buying by Russia and Thailand, of 18.8 tons and 9.3 tons respectively."

"Did you see that Diane Sawyer had a special report? They removed ALL items from a typical, middle class family's home that were not made in the USA .
There was hardly anything left besides the kitchen sink. Literally. During the special they are going to show truckloads of items - USA made - being brought in to replace everything and will be talking about how to find these items and the difference in price etc..

It was interesting that Diane said that if every American spent just $64 more than normal on USA made items this year, it would create something like 200,000 new jobs!

Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?    DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example. The point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.
THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!

Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on May 1st and continue it until June 1st. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they might have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it.

Remember, MAY 1 TO JUNE 1st !!!!!!    START NOW.
Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.
If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

Our Chinese Bondholders

Yesterday:

Ray and I worked on the cargo trailer, while Jay went shopping with his mother. 
We covered the caulk in the metal AC area with some silver Eternabond to make sure that it would be completely leak proof. 
Ray primed and painted the trim outside of that area on the front of the trailer, too. 
Then he primed the drawer that Jay and I had made, and a couple more doors.

This is how the closet and shelf/drawer area looks so far, without the doors installed.
