Washington,D.C.   "The King James Bible is coming!  The ‘National’ celebration of the ‘Majestic Legacy’ of the King James Bible will be held May 2-3rd in the nation’s capitol.  In fact, an expo tent housing ancient bibles including a first edition 1611 Authorized ‘King James’ will be on display in front of the Capitol building upon the National Mall."

Officially, the English-speaking world celebrated the King James Version's 400th anniversary yesterday,  May 2, 2011.

"One of my responsibilities as managing editor is to write an editorial for this space to introduce the theme of each issue. However, considering this issue's theme, I thought it appropriate to yield this space to others whose words carry far more impact than any I could craft.

Following are what some of history's greatest figures—presidents, prime ministers, monarchs, scientists and others—have said or written about "the book that changed the world," the Bible. Think deeply about their wisdom in this regard!

Sir Isaac Newton, known as the father of modern physics and astronomy, said, "There are more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane [i.e., secular] history."

The noted French writer and philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote: "Peruse the works of our philosophers; with all their pomp of diction, how mean [or lowly], how contemptible, are they, compared with the Scriptures! Is it possible that a Book at once so simple and sublime should be merely the work of man?"

The brilliant German scholar and philosopher Immanuel Kant said: "The existence of the Bible, as a book for the people, is the greatest benefit which the human race has ever experienced. Every attempt to belittle it is a crime against humanity."

Sir Winston Churchill, the great British prime minister, statesman, historian and author, said: "We reject with scorn all these learned and labored myths that Moses was but a legendary figure. We believe that the most scientific view, the most up-to-date and rationalistic conception, will find its fullest satisfaction in taking the Bible story literally."

Queen Victoria, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, said of the Bible, "That Book accounts for the supremacy of England."

Many American presidents have affirmed their deep respect for the Bible. George Washington, first president of the United States, said, "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."

Thomas Jefferson, third U.S. president, stated: "I have always said and always will say that the studious perusal of the Sacred Volume will make better citizens, better fathers, better husbands . . . The Bible makes the best people in the world."

John Quincy Adams, sixth U.S. president, wrote, "So great is my veneration of the Bible that the earlier my children begin to read it the more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens of their country." He also stated: "My custom is to read four or five chapters of the Bible every morning immediately after rising . . . It seems to me the most suitable manner of beginning the day . . . It is an invaluable and inexhaustible mine of knowledge and virtue."

Abraham Lincoln, 16th U.S. president, stated: "In regard to this Great Book, I have but to say, it is the best gift God has given to man."

Theodore Roosevelt, 26th U.S. president, said, "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education."

Ronald Reagan, 40th U.S. president, said, "Of the many influences that have shaped the United States into a distinctive nation and people, none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible."

Yesterday:

Jay and I installed the electrical outlet for the hidden AC which is below the closet in the cargo trailer, and we lined the AC area with more sheet metal, so no condensation could get on the wood in there. 

Then we cut some more panels for Ray to paint before they are screwed in as he would have to be contortionist to get to some of them, once they are installed!  One sturdy partition was for the special area we built for the main 110v. cord under the kitchen cabinets. 

 

Our thoughts are on the need for AC in the cargo trailer soon, even though it is a lot cooler today.

Dogs Live In The Moment.

"When we adopt a dog and bring him into our home, we are basically playing God in his life. In essence, we are saying, “I’m the person you are to love, obey and trust for the rest of your life. I hope that works for you!” Fortunately for us, dogs have embraced the “love the one you’re with” philosophy 100 percent. If it weren’t for a dog’s natural resilience and tendency to go with the flow, it would be virtually impossible to re-home a dog successfully. Dogs live in the moment!

As adaptive as dogs may be, they are individuals, and each one comes with a unique personality and temperament. Like us, some dogs are very social while others may be shy. While dogs are generally happy to adjust to our lifestyle and environment, it’s important for us to accept and honor them for who they are.


When I give private consultations to my clients, they often tell me they want their dogs to “make friends” with other dogs at the dog park or on walks. They assume their dog should want to interact with another dog, just because he’s a dog. They determine that behavior to mean the dog is “socialized.” Yet everyday, it is socially acceptable and even expected for us as humans to pass by multitudes of other humans that we virtually ignore.

When you go to the grocery store, do you feel compelled to meet, greet or even make eye contact with other shoppers? Of course not. Then why do we insist our canine companions “get to know” other dogs every time they encounter one? Being able to just co-exist in a social setting with other dogs should be as acceptable and natural for them, as it is for us.

The same is true of going to a party. Some people are the so-called “life of the party” and mingle with everyone. Others stay close to the people they know. Some may meet some new people and still stay close to those they know well. The person who doesn’t mingle may be less “social” as a partygoer, but it doesn’t make them any less “social” as a human being. They still socialize with their friends. Think of your dog this way too. If he can just “be” with other dogs, consider him a socialized dog and don’t pressure him to play with others. If he wants to, he will. But if he is content to sit and have other dogs around without growling or barking, this is good behavior.

I was shy as a teenager. Although I never missed a school function or dance, I wasn’t the type to initiate conversation or be the first one on the dance floor. Had I felt pressured to do so, I might not have grown out of my shyness and eventually developed better social skills.

Let your dog find his own way socially. Rather than insisting your dog meet another dog face to face, try walking him along side another dog first. When both dogs have settled into a balanced mode, they should be allowed to sniff each other. This is the canine version of “breaking the ice.” This method is natural and non-confrontational.

When you learn to celebrate your dog for who he is, both you and your best friend can achieve more balance and create an even deeper bond!"

Save the Endangered Species Act and Speak Out For Wolves!


"On April 9th, Congressional Democrats and Republicans agreed to override sound science and public policy and remove Endangered Species Act protection for wolves for purely political reasons. This is the first time in the law’s 37-year history that politicians have intervened to subvert the law’s intent.

The call for removal of wolves from listing under the Endangered Species Act came from ranchers and hunters in several western states where wolves have only recently been re-established – at a cost of millions of taxpayer dollars – after being completely wiped out earlier this century. When science didn’t back their arguments and the wolves’ protected status was repeatedly upheld, the ranchers and hunters resorted to political maneuvering.

The effect on wolves will become obvious as soon as the already struggling population succumbs to cruel traps and bullets.

The effect on the Endangered Species Act itself could be devastating, replacing science with politics in regulatory decision-making will render this shining achievement of animal protection law virtually toothless when it comes to protecting animals in the face of the interests of politically powerful commercial lobbies.

Tell your Senators and Representative that science, not politics, should determine if wolves are removed from the Endangered Species list.

Yesterday:

Still more about the closet and cabinets in the cargo trailer.
Jay installed some more of the rails, so Ray could fill, prime, and paint the screw holes. Jay and I were measuring and cutting doors/panels ready for Ray's attention. The cabinet doors aren't going to be fancy, but they are made of good AB material.  This all came out of the trailer, so we haven't had to buy any.  Good thing, too, as it is not available around here.



I let the kittens play in the hallway in the Middle Room while I am tending to their 'house'.  The door at the end goes into my hall, and the one on the right goes into the grooming room bathroom.

The Easy Button

"Perhaps you have seen one of several humorous television commercials by Staples®, the office supply store chain. In most of the ads, a customer is experiencing a business supply or organizational problem. Suddenly, a store employee pulls out an "Easy Button®," pushes it and the particular problem is resolved instantly.
The announcer then says, "That was easy!"—implying that, if you shop at Staples®, your office supply problems will be handled effortlessly. The "easy button" commercials are effective because they appeal to people's natural desire to find simpler ways to fix their problems.

Taking this a step further, wouldn't it be great if there was an "easy button" to handle all our troubles? Imagine if we could simply press a button and our financial, marriage, child rearing, employment or other difficulties could be solved immediately.

A Better Way to Live

Well, we all know that there is no such fanciful device. But Jesus Christ describes something that is easy: "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:29-30, emphasis added).

Christ's yoke symbolizes not only how He is to rule over us and take care of our needs, but also the work He is accomplishing; the mission He is performing. He invites you and me to join Him in this vital task. He wants us to be "hitched up" with Him—laboring together, pulling in the same direction, pursuing identical goals.
But why is this yoke "easy?" Because we are harnessed together with none other than Jesus Christ. As a result, we can absolutely rely on His steadfast strength, power and vigor to perform our duties. Conversely, sinners are yoked as weak, exhausted slaves to the world, with its satanic, oppressive, malevolent approach (Galatians 5:1). What Christ offers is an utterly better way to live, in contrast to one that results in terrible suffering, heartache, sadness, grief and death (Deuteronomy 30:19).

No, Jesus Christ doesn't offer us a Staples-like "easy button," but He presents us with something far better. He invites you and me to be "yoked" with Him—to go to work with Him—and to live as He lived. If we take up His challenge and remain faithful to the end, we will receive a magnificent and eternal reward. Are you ready to be yoked with Him?"

Yesterday,

Ray and I went in separate cars, to the Verizon store to look at the new phone options.  We were each offered, by mail, a free month, if we signed a new 2-year contract, but that deal had to be done by phone.  Neither Ray nor I want anything fancy, and they seem to get more complicated as each new model comes out, so we wanted to see and feel the phones.

Jay rode with me as we had things to do afterwards.  While he was waiting for us, Jay walked across the street to Home Depot as he had to get some tack strip for installing carpet in his bedroom.
 
Then we went to the closest thrift shop, and I bought one of those folding tables which has legs that go under a couch, for $4, normally $50.

The other day, one of my bags of groceries had not been put in the cart, so I called them, and they said they would replace the items with my receipt, so we got that done.  In that lost bag I had bought some salmon on sale, and the fish market was kind enough to mark some down for me again, as that 50% off sale was over.

At Petsmart, I found more bargains, so loaded up on good quality pet food again.  That, and the other haul I bought from Petco the other day, means I now have over $200 worth of pet groceries for $100!  Prime my foster cat, has always been picky about canned food, preferring beef, and I even found a better quality one that she will eat.  I might get another case of that while it is on sale, but it wouldn't be cost effective to make a special trip.

The other things I needed I could buy at Walmart or Dollar General.  There was so much traffic in town, that we opted for DG.  I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that DG now offers 1200 mg. Calcium in a capsule, as I have trouble swallowing those big pills.
 
The best part is that it also contains 1000 mg. of Vitamin D, so that eliminates one pill to take every day.
