Real Rambo came from Alabama. Prop B, Yeah!

"Robert Lewis Howard (July 11, 1939 – December 23, 2009) was a highly decorated United States Army soldier and Medal of Honor recipient of the Vietnam War. He was wounded 14 times over 54 months of combat, was awarded 8 Purple Hearts, 4 Bronze Stars, and was nominated for the Medal of Honor three separate times. He was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on February 22, 2010."

"Thousands of dogs will soon enjoy a better life -- and they have you to thank.

Missourians voted YES! on Prop B, and chose to save dogs suffering in Missouri puppy mills.

You made this victory happen. Whether you donated to keep our TV ads on the air, spent your nights phone banking for Prop B, hit the pavement with leaflets, gathered signatures from registered voters, or engaged your friends and family in Missouri -- you helped show millions of Missouri voters what Prop B would mean for dogs.

We are grateful to the citizens of Missouri for voting to crack down on puppy mill abuses and establish common-sense standards for the care of dogs at large scale facilities. Finally these creatures will have relief from being crammed into small and filthy cages, without veterinary care, exercise, or human affection. If we can do it here in the nation’s largest puppy mill state, we are more likely to see similar reforms enacted in other states, where the industry is not nearly as strong and entrenched."

Today:

Ray raked up some of the multitude of pine needles that have fallen from the blowing rains, while I took a neighbor for a 'quick' run into our town.  That turned out to be more involved, isn't it always!

Then I helped Ray rake up a lot more.  It started to sprinkle, so we quit that.   We have a big pile of pine needles to burn now, but it was too windy.  Anyway, I haven't checked to see if the Burn Ban is off.

At lunch time, the same neighbor decided that they needed to go for another 'quick' trip all the way to the next town, so I grabbed a sandwich and banana to eat on the way.  That got to be more than I was told, too, but I did find some things that I couldn't find yesterday, so it was not in vain.

It is a chilly, 'intermittent wiper' day.

Car & RV Mirror Safety. Maxine's Election Thoughts. Shopping

"It works. Takes a while to get used to because you are conditioned to seeing them the other way.

"I’ve been using this technique with my mirrors for years. If the mirrors are adjusted correctly, I can see the cars around me at all times, either in the mirrors or directly in my line of sight. It took a little while to get used to because I had to learn to trust what I saw in my mirrors."

"For you stubborn non-believers, this is not an opinion. This IS the correct method of adjusting your side mirrors (blind-side mirrors). Not only is it not an opinion, but the way the laws were developed and written, which now REQUIRE such mirrors on both sides of all vehicles sold in the USA, was to have these mirrors set up in the manner exactly as described, to eliminate potential collisions due to blind-spots.

Furthermore, every State's drivers ed manual describes the side mirrors to be set up in this same manner. If you get used to this set up, you WILL NOT HAVE A BLIND SPOT! Your biggest problem may be breaking the old bad habit. Additionally, if you really feel the urge to peer down the side of your vehicle, all you need to do is move your head closer to the window."

Another hint.  Back in!

"Yes, back in. Then when you are ready to leave, you drive out, not having to worry about some one driving behind you and hitting a car, trying to leave the store."

Today:

It rained quite heavily last night, so that cooled everything down.  The grass and trees are thankful for the watering. Yesterday evening Paco wouldn't go out because of the thunder, and Misty didn't want to get wet.

Jay and I went into Conroe to shop.  No thrift shopping this time.  We were worn out from going from store to store searching other items.

Just Lowes, Walmart, two Krogers, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, 99c Store, Dollar General, Health Food Store, Paper Recycling, etc.  But we had to walk from one end to the other, and back again in each store.

I must have got in my 10,000 steps today.

Ready for the Election? Prop B. Cargo Trailer.

From Al's  GROANER'S CORNER: "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation."   AUTHOR UNKNOWN.

"Let me get this straight......we're trying to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also is exempt from it and hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.
What could possibly go wrong?" –Maxine

"I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be .... quiet, serene....and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see. Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and free education, and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegal's came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor, your child's second grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to 'press one' to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties...
Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not then continue cleaning up the poop..."

Election Day is tomorrow -- it's crunch time for animals.

Send an eCard, call your friends, scream it from the streets!
Election Day is tomorrow -- have you told everyone you know to vote YES! on Prop B? Send a Prop B eCard to voters in Missouri -- and ask them to help save thousands of puppy mill dogs.

See the cards, then send one (or 10!) before the polls open tomorrow.

At puppy mills in Missouri, dogs are crammed into small and filthy cages, denied veterinary care, exposed to extremes of heat and cold, and given no exercise or human affection. These puppy mills are cruel and the way these dogs are treated is wrong. Prop B will stop puppy mill abuses by establishing common sense standards for the proper care of dogs.
As an animal lover, urge everyone you know in Missouri to vote YES! on Prop B -- use our eCards to remind them today.  Sincerely, Barbara Schmit, Campaign Manager

Missourians for the Protection of Dogs / YES! on Prop B

P.S. Do you have time to volunteer today or tomorrow? Contact us at coordinator@missourifordogs.com or call 314-725-8880 if you can put in some last minute work for dogs.

Today and Yesterday:

Muffie-and-Maddie
Maddie

Muffie and Maddie came for a couple of days, so I knew I would be busy.
As little Maddie is so tiny, I am always worried that she will find a way out of the fence, even though I know there are none, so I stay with her all the time she is outside.
                                             -------
Ray and I knew we had to get the bumper ready to put back on the cargo trailer.  Jim the welder is going in for a knee replacement, so he wanted to get it welded back on before that happened.

Bumper-painted

Ray painted it with Black Hammered paint.

SAM_0173

The threshold of the back door needed attention, so we covered that up with heavy duty white flashing, breaking (bending) it over the inside and outside of the threshold, so it would be behind the next piece to go on the oustside.   Stapled that in place with the air stapler.

We had to find a way to cover up a few uneven sins on the bottom of the trailer before the bumper could be put back on.  So we added this wide strip of metal, across the bottom, so it covers that up!
We haven't even started making the door look better, yet.

It is back to tank-top, shorts and AC again, today
