Quartzsite:

"This new home for the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show lasted 10 years until the show grew to a point that the current 3.5-acre show site could barely hold the number of exhibitors that were now vying for exhibit space at this popular annual event. In 1997 the “BIG TENT”, as the show had become known, moved across the freeway to its present home, a new 20-acre facility, ½-mile south of I-10 on Highway 95 (now 700 South Central).

With the new Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show grounds, the popular event was able to provide over 15 acres of public FREE parking.

Dates for the 29th Annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show are January 21-29, 2012, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m."

Storm-Ready Housing

"Bob Vila partners with St. Petersburg Neighborhood Housing Services (SPNHS), a NeighborWorks affiliate, and Tampa Armature Works (TAW) to create affordable, energy-efficient, storm-ready housing from recycled steel shipping containers."

Container-house

David Cross of TAW shows Bob how these abandoned shipping containers make ideal building units-- they are built to last and can be fitted with windows, doors, and super-insulating ceramic paint for a quick-build solution that is right for today's energy and climate challenges. Together with SPNHS and Barrow Construction, Bob and the team build a roomy, single-family home that improves this once-blighted neighborhood and creates opportunity for first-time home ownership.   Video: http://bcove.me/90xb4m5d

Ready the Fireplace

Have your heating system checked by a licensed heating contractor. Heating systems will use fuel more efficiently, last longer and have fewer problems if properly serviced. Get your wood stove and fireplace in working order. Gary Webster, Creative Director of Travis Industries, suggests that you examine your wood stove or fireplace insert’s door gasket for a tight seal.

Reverse Ceiling Fan

Change the direction of your ceiling fan to create an upward draft that redistributes warm air from the ceiling. Clean your humidifiers regularly during the heating season. Bacteria and spores can develop in a dirty water tank resulting in unclean moisture misting out into your room.

Clean Yard Equipment

Prepare your yard equipment for storage. This includes draining fuel from all gas-operated equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and chain saws. Check to see that all of your snow equipment is up and running before the first flurry falls. Organize your snow clearing gear. When snow arrives you’ll want to have shovels, roof rakes, and snow blowers where you can get to them.

This Week in the News

"Mr. Wallace Smith is back with another video-cast. This week, he gives us a quick overview of what is going on in the news.

He opens by mentioning how Europe needs Germany, and how this ties in with Bible prophecy that foretells a “Beast” power rising, a topic covered in more detail by The Beast of Revelation—a booklet published by the Living Church of God.

Continuing, he points to an article mentioning that consumers in the United States are spending more—even while incomes are dropping and the unemployment rate is rising. Seventy percent of the U.S. economy, he explains, is based on its citizens’ spending. When citizens are spending beyond the level they can afford, this does not bode well for the future of their nation’s economy.

Turning to the Middle East, Mr. Smith sums it up with a keyword: “Volatility.” People across the Middle East are clamoring for change, but do not seem to know what kind of change they really want.

A second keyword that is vital for understanding world events is: “Repentance.” Nations that are disobeying God, and that are squandering blessings God gave them long ago, are fulfilling Bible prophecies revealed thousands of years ago. All these events, Mr. Smith reminds us, can be understood more clearly through the light of Bible prophecy."

Yesterday:

Not what I had planned to do at all.  Jay called and said that his renter needed help picking up his Volvo's starter and taking it to the mechanic.  This would get the renter mobile again.  So that is what we did.  A surprise to me was that the mechanic was in a building that used to belong to my late DH's late son in law.  Hopefully the car will be ready on Monday.

The renter needed to stop at a Kroger's which has his bank in it, so I was able to buy a 40 lb box of cat litter while I had Jay with me.  He wasn't around when I got it off the shelf, so I lifted it onto the cart, but he carried it into the house for me.

The lady who was interested in Pebbles was not such a good home after all.  She travels quite a bit, and the cat would be left home alone with just a neighbor coming in to feed her.  Pebbles would want to be with her Mom most of the time, and not left alone for days at a time.  With some adult cats that might work, but not with little Pebbles. Anyway that is not the sort of home we want for our adoptable pets.

As we are still trying to get Ray's TV to show all the cable's channels, I bought a 100' roll of special coax cable for HDTVs.

I hope we can get that strung before I have to leave to take my cats to Adoption Day.

Sounds like you had a busy day. Too bad about Pebble's possible new Mom. I bet it is hard to give them up after you spent so much time with them, raising and caring for them.

Pebbles is the one that I want to hurry up and find a new Mom, she terrorizes my old Bobcat.
Of course I wish her a really good home, but not here!
Happy Tails and Trails, Penny.
