We should be aware of these things if we are considering getting ready for Halloween just over a week away:

Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

"Please check all that apply. This year for Halloween, I'll probably:
  1. Dress the little ones up in costumes and escort them around our neighborhood to collect candy.
  2. Check out the local haunted house.
  3. Get together with some buddies to watch a scary movie.
  4. Dress up in a devil suit and scare the neighborhood kids that knock on the front door.
  5. Turn off the porch light and hope nobody finds me eating the three bags of Snickers bars I bought for trick-or-treaters.
Most people see nothing wrong with the activities listed above. They consider Halloween festivities to be a harmless way for their children to have an evening of "fantasy and fun."

But does this standard hold true for Christians? Is dressing up like ghosts, goblins, and witches really "no big deal"? Or is it glorifying and empowering Satan?

While it is true that trick-or-treat is no longer primarily about curses, it is about gluttony. Children go from house to house, filling grocery bags full of candy and then returning home to feast on their great treasure. Often, those who stay at home to hand out the candy consume great amounts of it themselves!

Even this element of Halloween, which in comparison might seem harmless, does nothing to glorify God. The Bible says that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We should not be polluting that temple with food that clouds our perceptions and draws us away from God.

"Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them" (Ephesians 5:11).

Satan is no doubt jubilant that such a large portion of this "Christian nation" views a holiday in his honor as something that is harmless fun. Could it be that by our carelessness, we are contributing to the extraordinary power Satan seems to have on October 31?

No matter how fun or exciting it may seem, Halloween is no celebration for a Christian. If we truly seek to glorify God, then how can we devote one day of the year to worshipping Satan? We can't.

The Bible says, "Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9)."  by Debra J. Hicks.

Understanding what the Bible says. Hate evil - don’t delight in it. God views witchcraft and all other occult activities as evil:

What's Wrong with Halloween?

The question is, should Christians adopt such practices? Can we borrow the pagan customs and superstitions of ancient peoples and "Christianize" them? The Bible is not silent on the subject:

Learn not the way of the heathen....for the customs of the people are vain. Jeremiah 10:2-3

When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. Deut. 18:9.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Ephesians 5:11

Now the works of the flesh of evident, which are ......idolatry, sorcery, hatred.... and the like.......that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." Gal 5:20

He practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. 2 Chron 33:6

Give no regards to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God . Lev 19:31

And the person who turns after mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set my face against that person, and cut him off from his people. Lev 20:6
________

Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. (1 Cor. 10:21)

Emphasis on evil and the occult
“Witches, sorcerers, and ghosts are popular figures during Halloween. But the Bible strictly forbids occult practices such as witchcraft, sorcery, divination, interpreting omens, casting spells, and consulting a medium.

(Deut. 18:9–11. 9 “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer 11 or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead,

These counterfeit attempts to see the future, control one’s fate, or obtain guidance are forbidden because God’s people are to trust him for their future and seek his guidance.

No one can deny that Halloween is mainly focused on fear, darkness, monsters, the occult and violence. Are these the kinds of things that we should be exposing our children or ourselves to? …Halloween is a holiday that glorifies that which is dark, that which is diabolical.”

Ephesians 5:11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Ten Reasons Christians Should Not Celebrate Halloween
Many in our secular society believe Halloween is nothing more than a harmless festival that allows kids to collect candy. But is it? Its origins lie deeply rooted in the occult, and Christians should stay away.

The Real Meaning of Halloween

It's Not All About The Candy

We know as Christians that we should not celebrate Halloween, but do we know why? When I was a child, Halloween was one of my favorite times of the year. I loved dressing up, going out trick-or-treating, and enjoying the other festivities. Thank God for His Grace! I truly believe that once you come unto the knowledge or revelation of something, you are then responsible. I didn't know then, what I know now. In doing research, getting information from people and gathering information from various sources, my mother and I came across some startling and very eye opening facts about the origins of activities, from what we use to consider a fun and harmless time of the year.

Did you know..............

Trick or treating and wearing costumes were first done by the Druids to keep themselves safe from evil spirits?

Bobbing for Apples was done to obtain favor with the evil spirits. People would kneel around a tub of water filled with apples. The first person to get an apple without using their hands, would have good luck and favor from the spirits for the coming year.

Bonfires originally came from these nights of human and animal sacrifices where they would throw the remains of the bodies into the fire. The next morning all that was left were ashes and bones- thus the name bonefIres- bonfIres.

The 10 Reasons Christians Should Not Celebrate Halloween.

1. October 31st. Has long been known as "The Festival of the Dead." The Celtic tribes and their priests the Druids celebrated this day as a marker for the change from life to death.

2. Halloween today is performed usually by adherents of witchcraft who use the night for their rituals. Witches celebrate Halloween as the "Feast of Samhain" the first feast of the witchcraft year. Being a festival of the dead, Halloween is a time when witches attempt to communicate with the dead through various forms of divination.

3. Christians should not be involved with occultist practice or divination. Note God's command against divination in Deuteronomy 18.

4. Occultist believe Halloween is a time of transition between life and death. Some occult practitioners...believe in lying on the grave and listening to the message from the long departed.

5. Occultist also taught that spirits and ghosts left the grave during this night and would seek out warmth in their previous homes. Villagers, fearful of the possibility of being visited by the ghosts, would dress up in costumes to scare the spirits on their way. They would also leave food and other "treats" at their door to appease the spirits.

6. Occultists also would try to scare away the spirits by carving a scary face into a pumpkin. Sometimes the villagers would light a candle and place it within the pumpkin and use it as a lantern.

7. In some witchcraft covens, the closing ritual includes eating an apple or engaging in fertility rites.

8. Schools are removing any religious significance from Christmas (Winter Break) and Easter (Spring Break). Isn't it ironic that most public schools still celebrate Halloween even though it has occultist origins?

9. Participating in Halloween gives sanction to a holiday the promotes witches, divination, haunted houses and other occultist practices.

10. Christians should not endorse or promote Halloween in any way. "The night is nearly over; the day is almost near. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armour of light." Romans 13:12.

__________

Yesterday:

The cold spell is over, and it is back to turning the AC on at night, or it becomes stuffy.  The days are really nice, I hope it stays this way for a while.

The other day, when I was at Hancock's Fabrics I found a card for an upholstery lady with a local phone number.  When I called, I found out that she is right here in this subdivision.  On the phone, she gave me a definite quote for making covers for the cargo trailer's dinette cushions.  She has obviously done this before.

Yesterday, I loaded up the foam and went over there.   The lady the came out to the van, and did the same thing that I did, and measured the circumference of each cushion, but she wanted me to buy one yard more than what I had figured.  She also agreed with me that it really needed to be sturdy upholstery material.  We arranged to meet again on Tuesday.  I unloaded the cushions onto a table in my workshop, and took off for Conroe.

At Hancock's, the only fabric place in town, the chocolate color remnant that I had seen the other day, was still there.  This time I had a sample of the paneling and Formica, to see how the 'tones' blended.  It wasn't really my choice of color, I would have preferred it lighter, but there were 10 yards of it, in two pieces.  Two yards more than I needed.  So I bought it, and thread to match.

Sometime, during my travels, one 'wing' of my reading glasses had broken off.  It was very difficult looking at items on the upper shelves with my bifocals when I got to Kroger's.   I still managed to find many bargains, and we should be alright for a while.

Halloween is a big seller now for the supermarkets over here in the UK.

It used to just be Guy Fawkes night on November the 5th, but they can make more cash from Halloween.

Everone still does the fireworks howver!

Thank you for your comment, Wizz.

The stores are full of it here, too. All you see is a sea of orange when you walk in.
Just another excuse for commercialism, as if the big companies can't make enough money on the merits of their goods.

Halloween is not the only pagan practice we have. The Christmas Tree was originally the Yule tree of a pagan practice. This pagan prarctice was simply combined with the celebration of the birth of Christ to make both sides happy. Looks like it worked (grin).

Even the date of Christ's birth was changed to make it coincide with the pagan winter celebration, hoping to get more converts to "Christianity".

Most of the so-called Christian holidays came from paganism, even Easter.

The real Holy Days are specific in the Bible.
