BPA Regulation

"The Centers for Disease Control says 93% of us have Bisphenol A in our bodies. From the linings of food and soda cans to eyeglasses, water bottles and dental sealants billions of pounds of this petroleum-based chemical are used to strengthen plastics. BPA mimics and can interfere with the hormone estrogen. Studies show even small amounts can alter reproductive, neurological and immune systems.

"Bisphenol A, that research is showing more and more could lead to diabetes, obesity, early puberty, cancer, a whole range of problems," said Erika Schreder Washington Toxics Coalition.
Canada now lists BPA as a toxic substance.

The European Union and at least seven states have restricted its use. But the Federal Government has not taken any regulatory action. The Environmental Protection Agency has listed PBA as a chemical of concern. And the Food and Drug Administration says there's "some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children."

The public basically wants safer materials. "They don't like that someone isn't minding the store," said Andy Ingrejas, director of Safer Chemicals Healthy Families. "If we can't get Washington to address these problems in a way that really benefits public health, but also benefits the business environment we'll see more private efforts in the marketplace. We're seeing more companies start to address, start to adopt their own chemical policies trying to weed out the known bad chemicals."

Though industry groups like the American Chemistry Council say, "BPA has been safely used for decades."  Concerned families, some retailers and interest groups are working to overhaul outdated U.S. Chemicals policies so that health and safety information is publicly available."

Bisphenol A, Food Containers, Effects on Humans
"Decide for yourself. Bis-Phenol A is an additive in clear, hard plastics. It is used in water bottles, baby bottles, soda can liners, etc. and is known to leach into the foods and liquids which are stored in it. It is in recycling category 7 (on the bottom of the bottle, in the triangle).   Independent academic studies suggest it presents a variety of risks to humans. The government, relying on industry studies, claims the facts are unclear. By Bill Moyers and Expose."

"Bisphenol A is found in most plastic food containers today. Not only is it found in plastic containers, but also in the lining of most cans. BPA is essentially a synthetic estrogen that enters the body when one consumes food or beverages out of plastic or plastic-lined containers.

This is not only harmful to the male reproductive system, but has been found to also stimulate breast cancer growth in women. Knowing this, it should be of no surprise that the sperm count of the average Western male is on a steady decline as many males are becoming more and more feminine.

What most people don't know is that Bisphenol A was actually considered as the form of estrogen to be used in estrogen pills going back to the 1930s."

Yesterday:

Suddenly my printer and computer won't talk to each other.  They have been friends for ages, so I don't know what started this tiff.  It was a good thing I was up early as I spent a long time trying to find out the problem.

It still wasn't resolved by the time I was supposed to leave to pick up Jay.  But, just as I was leaving, I got a call from the mother of my SPCA boss, Kenya, to say that Kenya's cancer stricken husband had died in the night.

She knew that I was friends with The Lhasa Apso Rescue group.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lhasa_Apso.    Two of the 18 Lhasas that were in that backyard breeder rescue in 2006, had been adopted through our SPCA.    But the couple split up, and the husband had returned them to us this year, as per the contract.  They are at Kenya's place, and her mother wanted to know if I could get the Lhasa Rescue to take them over now.  These are two very sweet Lhasas.  So that was a flurry of phone calls, and emails.
Unfortunately, all their fosters are full, just as ours are.  EVERY LITTER BIT HURTS.  Please don't buy, while homeless dogs die.   Adopt!!

In February, 2006 the Lhasas broke out of their yard in this subdivision, and came to my place, their friendly groomer.  The dogs knew I would feed and take care of them.  The breeder had had a stroke, and the relatives weren't taking care of the dogs.   The injured ones went straight to Kenya, and after a few days, the rest were picked up by the Lhasa Rescue.

All that was going on at the same time as my granddaughter was dying after being hit by a DDD (dam drunk driver), and my best friend doggie had just been diagnosed with terminal spleen cancer. (Canine Splenic Hemangiosarcoma)

Misty and I still picked up Jay, and he put new legs on my special little height-challenged sawhorses, while I brushed Misty ready for her bath.  It took quite a while as her hair is long, and dogs should be brushed out before their bath, or they matt up.   Yes, poodles have hair, not fur, so they don't shed.   Now that I have some more Revolution, (heartworm flea, tick, mite prevention), I wanted to bathe her before I applied it.
It took both of us with two dog dryers to brush-dry her, and I clipped her feet, but by that time she had enough.  I'll finish her groom another day.

Yesterday afternoon, I was still troubleshooting this new argument between my computer and printer, changed cords, sprayed contact cleaner, printed test page, etc.  Printer will copy, but won't have anything to do with my puter.  The disc for my printer doesn't help either.
So now what do I do, let them get a divorce, or take them in for counseling?

Shorts or jeans?  Heat or air?  Sweater or tank top?
The weather has been different each day.  Yesterday the low was 46° and went to 63°.  The day before it went up to 84°, and last night it was 29°, but supposed to go to the 70's today !

Did you reinstall the printer drivers? That might help. Also when you do that be sure to check if it installs another icon.

Check out this site to see if it helps:

Thank you, Sandra.
I tried that, too.
And everything else that was suggested.
I guess my printer is worn out.
In the end I just bought a new one.
Happy Trails, Penny
