Spirulina Health Benefits. Supplements for Prevention of Cancer and Its Metastasis
"How do spirulina health benefits help in prevention of cancer and its metastasis? Taking Spirulina supplements prevents viruses from copying your cells, stops inflammation that feeds cancer, cleanses your colon, provides you with a more active immunity and helps protect from Plutonium poisoning. In fact, Spirulina benefits every normal cell in your body.
Do you need proof that Spirulina is good for you? Then sit back and read on...
Many studies -- in vitro, animal and human researches as well -- have already been done about positive Spirulina side effects. Here are some of the results...
Yes, viruses can copy your cells and cause cancers like lymphomas. That's how these cancer causing viruses hurt you but Spirulina can prevent them from doing so.
Copper and iron are metals that are essential nutrients. But too much of these metals can lead to irreversible inflammatory damage to your cells and tissues. Inflammation is the root cause of all diseases including cancer. Spirulina helps flush them out by binding to them.
An acidic body condition invites a lot of diseases such as cancer, hypertension, diabetes and gout. Spirulina is a highly alkaline food that can prevent acidity.
These healthy bacteria provide you with 3 major health benefits -- better food digestion and absorption, protection from infections, and boosting your immune system for active immunity.
This is according to results of a clinical research done in Japan on Spirulina health benefits.
Spirulina strengthens your liver because it contains high amount of vegetative protein, vitamin B6 and magnesium. It provides choline to your liver. Choline is necessary for a healthy liver because it prevents fats from accumulating in the liver.
It is the richest source of natural chlorophyll. This helps in maintaining a healthy weight which is one of the steps to prevent hormone-related cancers.
Spirulina is a fiber rich food. It also contains chlorophyll. Chlorophyll cleanses your colon and intestines and protects the lining of your stomach from irritants. This helps prevent stomach cancer.
NK cells specifically target cancer cells. It also raises the number of macrophages and makes them more active and effective in killing germs.
Related information on Spirulina health benefits on your immune system is in this article from Science Direct.
Together with Ganoderma extract and Vitamin C, this immune system booster can prevent activities of cancerous cells. Spirulina is found to be very rich in phycocyanin, a pigment that can prevent cancer from forming a colony in your body and from metastasizing if you already have the disease.
Spirulina is one of the best sources of antioxidants such as carotenoids, beta carotene, zeaxanthin and alpha carotene. All these antioxidants can prevent free radicals from damaging the cells of your body.
Free radicals are effects of pollution and toxic chemicals in the environment, misuse of synthetic medicines and an unhealthy lifestyle. They contribute to the development of cancer.
Spirulina health benefits include helping your cells and natural defense fight cancerous cells.
When you take Spirulina, it increases the activities of the vital parts of your immune system -- T cells, bone marrow stem cells, NK cells, macrophages, spleen and thymus glands.
Plutonium is one of the radioactive chemicals that come from nuclear power plants. It can contaminate the sources of food and water and even the air. Sea algaes such as Spirulina can flush out Plutonium.
You owe it to yourself to consider adding a natural immune system booster such as Spirulina to your diet, especially if your main source of protein is animal protein. If you already have cancer, changing the way you live and eat can help you in overcoming the disease. Try spirulina and its health benefits may just make the big difference." BLUE-GREEN ALGAE Overview Information
“Blue-green algae” describes a large and diverse group of simple, plant-like organisms found in salt water and some large fresh water lakes.
Blue-green algae products are used for many conditions, but so far, there isn’t enough scientific evidence to determine whether or not they are effective for any of them.
Blue-green algae are used as a source of dietary protein, B-vitamins, and iron. They are also used for weight loss, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), hayfever, diabetes, stress, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and other women’s health issues.
Some people use blue-green algae for treating precancerous growths inside the mouth, boosting the immune system, improving memory, increasing energy and metabolism, lowering cholesterol, preventing heart disease, healing wounds, and improving digestion and bowel health.
Blue-green algae are commonly found in tropical or subtropical waters that have a high-salt content, but some types grow in large fresh water lakes. The natural color of these algae can give bodies of water a dark-green appearance. The altitude, temperature, and sun exposure where the blue-green algae are grown dramatically influence the types and mix of blue-green algae in the water.
Some blue-green algae products are grown under controlled conditions. Others are grown in a natural setting, where they are more likely to be contaminated by bacteria, liver poisons (microcystins) produced by certain bacteria, and heavy metals. Choose only products that have been tested and found free of these contaminants.
You may have been told that blue-green algae are an excellent source of protein. But, in reality, blue-green algae is no better than meat or milk as a protein source and costs about 30 times as much per gram.
How does it work?
Blue-green algae have a high protein, iron, and other mineral content which is absorbed when taken orally. Blue-green algae are being researched for their potential effects on the immune system, swelling (inflammation), and viral infections." "Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids, antioxidants that can help protect cells from damage. It contains nutrients, including B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid).
Spirulina -- like any blue-green algae -- can be contaminated with toxic substances called microcystins. It can also absorb heavy metals from the water where it is grown. For these reasons, it is important to buy spirulina from a trusted brand.
Test tube and animal studies suggest spirulina may boost the immune system, help protect against allergic reactions, and have antiviral and anticancer properties.
Immune Support
A number of animal and test tube studies suggest that spirulina increases production of antibodies, infection-fighting proteins, and other cells that improve immunity and help ward off infection and chronic illnesses such as cancer. However, it has not been tested in people. In one clinical trial that involved humans, another type of blue-green algae called chlorella did not boost the immune response to flu vaccine.
Protein Supplement
Amino acids make up 62% of spirulina. Because it is a rich source of protein and other nutrients, spirulina has been used as a nutritional supplement. However, although spirulina contains a certain level of protein, you would need to take very large quantities to see any effect. Other sources of protein, such as nuts, legumes, whole grains, and meat, provide protein in smaller servings.
Allergic Reactions
Animal and test tube studies suggest that spirulina may protect against allergic reactions by stopping the release of histamines, substances that contribute to allergy symptoms, such as a runny nose, watery eyes, hives, and soft-tissue swelling." Just 1 TBSP a Day: An Easy Way to Lower Your Cholesterol, Blood Pressure and...
"What if consuming a tablespoon or two per day of a simple food could drastically lower your chances of developing cancer, heart disease or stroke, or of contracting a life-threatening
virus such as HIV?
Would your interest be piqued?
There is a unique freshwater plant that has been of enormous interest to nutritional scientists over the past decade, and it shows promise for doing all of the above—and then some. It's one of the most nutrient-packed dynamos of the superfood world.
This simple food is spirulina.
I recently posted a report about the radioprotective effects of spirulina. But its health benefits go far beyond that application. But what exactly is spirulina? You may be surprised!
Spirulina: One of Nature's Near-Perfect Foods
Spirulina is similar to sea vegetables such as dulse, kelp, nori, Kombu, arame, and wakame. Along with its cousin chlorella (another one of my favorites), spirulina is a member of the "blue-green" family—but this family is actually not truly algae.
Although you will often hear the term "blue-green algae," spirulina and its kin are actually cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are classified as bacteria because their genetic material is not organized in a membrane-bound nucleus. Unlike other bacteria, they have chlorophyll and use the sun as an energy source, in the way plants and algae do.
Spirulina is primarily produced by two species: Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima.
One of the special traits of spirulina is its rich protein content—it's 50 to 70 percent protein by weight and contains all of the essential amino acids. Records of the Spanish conquistadors suggest that the Aztecs consumed spirulina as a food source, and the Kanembu people of Central Africa harvested it from what is now called Lake Chad.
Wild spirulina grows in the alkaline lakes of Mexico and on the African continent, although it is commercially grown and harvested all over the world. It reproduces quickly, and because the individual organisms tend to clump together, it's easy to harvest. Commercial production of spirulina is estimated to reach 220,000 tons by the year 2020. Japan is the largest producer of spirulina, as well as the largest consumer.
Spirulina Packs Quite a Nutritional Punch
Spirulina is one of the most nutritious and concentrated food sources on the planet. As a result, it's appearing more frequently all the time in natural foods and beverages, such as green foods and drinks, energy bars and oral supplements.
Spirulina consistently boasts an amazing protein level of 60 percent on average—even better than red meat, which is about 27 percent protein. And spirulina's protein is biologically complete, containing all of the essential amino acids needed for human health. Spirulina also contains a potent array of other beneficial nutrients, including the following:"

On this Day:
Wyatt Earp dies in Los Angeles, Jan 13, 1929:
"Nearly 50 years after the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Wyatt Earp dies quietly in Los Angeles at the age of 80.
The Earp brothers had long been competing with the Clanton-McClaury ranching families for political and economic control of Tombstone, Arizona, and the surrounding region. On October 26, 1881, the simmering tensions finally boiled over into violence, and Wyatt, his brothers Virgil and Morgan, and his close friend, Doc Holliday, killed three men from the Clanton and McLaury clans in a 30-second shoot-out on a Tombstone street near the O.K. Corral. A subsequent hearing found that the Earps and Holliday had been acting in their capacity as law officers and deputies, and they were acquitted of any wrongdoing. However, not everyone was satisfied with the verdict, and the Earps found their popularity among the townspeople was on the wane. Worse, far from bringing an end the long-standing feud between the Earps and Clanton-McLaurys, the shoot-out sparked a series of vengeful attacks and counterattacks.
In late December 1881, the Clantons and McLaurys launched their vendetta with a shotgun ambush of Virgil Earp; he survived, but lost the use of his left arm. Three months later, Wyatt and Morgan were playing billiards when two shots were fired from an unknown source. Morgan was fatally wounded.
As a U.S. deputy marshal, Wyatt had a legal right and obligation to bring Morgan's killers to justice, but he quickly proved to be more interested in avenging his brother's death than in enforcing the law. Three days after Morgan's murder, Frank Stillwell, one of the suspects in the murder, was found dead in a Tucson, Arizona, rail yard. Wyatt and his close friend Doc Holliday were accused—accurately, as later accounts revealed—of murdering Stillwell. Wyatt refused to submit to arrest, and instead fled Arizona with Holliday and several other allies, pausing long enough to stop and kill a Mexican named Florentino Cruz, who he believed also had been involved in Morgan's death.
In the years to come, Wyatt wandered throughout the West, speculating in gold mines in Idaho, running a saloon in San Francisco, and raising thoroughbred horses in San Diego. At the turn of the century, the footloose gunslinger joined the Alaskan gold rush, and he ran a saloon in Nome until 1901. After participating in the last of the great gold rushes in Nevada, Wyatt finally settled in Los Angeles, where he tried unsuccessfully to find someone to publicize his many western adventures. Wyatt's famous role in the shootout at the O.K. Corral did attract the admiring attention of the city's thriving new film industry. For several years, Wyatt became an unpaid technical consultant on Hollywood Westerns, drawing on his colorful past to tell flamboyant matinee idols like William Hart and Tom Mix how it had really been. When Wyatt died in 1929, Mix reportedly wept openly at his funeral.
Ironically, the wider fame that eluded Wyatt in life came soon after he died. A young journalist named Stuart Lake published Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshall, a wildly fanciful biography that portrayed the gunman as a brave and virtuous instrument of frontier justice. Dozens of similarly laudatory books and movies followed, ensuring Wyatt Earp an enduring place in the popular American mythology of the Wild West."

Plane crashes into Potomac, Jan 13, 1982:
"On this day in 1982, an Air Florida Boeing 727 plunges into the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., killing 78 people. The crash, caused by bad weather, took place only two miles from the White House.
The Air Florida flight took off from Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, with 74 passengers and 5 crew members on board. The plane had flown into Washington from Miami in the early afternoon and was supposed to return to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, after a short stop. However, snow in Washington temporarily closed the airport. When it reopened, the plane was de-iced with chemical anti-freeze, but the plane still had difficulty moving away from the gate due to the ice. When it eventually made it to the airport's only usable runway, it was forced to wait 45 minutes for clearance to take off.
Not wanting to further delay the flight, the pilot, Larry Wheaton, did not return for more de-icing, and worse, failed to turn on the plane's own de-icing system. In fact, the pilot and co-pilot discussed the situation, and the co-pilot said "It's a losing battle trying to de-ice these things. It gives you a false sense of security, that's all it does." During the delay, however, ice was accumulating on the wings, and by the time the plane reached the end of the runway, it was able to achieve only a few hundred feet of altitude.
Thirty seconds later, the plane crashed into the 14th Street Bridge over the Potomac River, less than a mile away from the runway. Seven vehicles traveling on the bridge were struck by the 727 and the plane fell into the freezing water. It was later determined that 73 of the people on board the plane died from the impact, leaving only six survivors in the river. In addition, four motorists died in the crash.
Terrible traffic in Washington that day made it difficult for rescue workers to reach the scene. Witnesses didn't know what to do to assist the survivors who were stuck in the freezing river. Finally, a police helicopter arrived and began assisting the survivors in a very risky operation.
Two people in particular emerged as heroes during the rescue: Arland Williams and Lenny Skutnik. Known as the "sixth passenger," Williams survived the crash, and passed lifelines on to others rather than take one for himself. He ended up being the only plane passenger to die from drowning. When one of the survivors to whom Williams had passed a lifeline was unable to hold on to it, Skutnik, who was watching the unfolding tragedy, jumped into the water and swam to rescue her. Both Skutnik and Williams (along with bystander Roger Olian) received the Coast Guard Gold Lifesaving Medal. The bridge was later renamed the Arland D. Williams Jr. Memorial Bridge."

Yesterday:
On the morning news was this report which happened just south of where I live. Little did I know that it was going to affect me twice yesterday.
"Fiery UPS truck accident shuts down I-45"
CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- "Crews in Montgomery County are trying to clear the wreckage of a UPS 18-wheeler from Interstate 45.
The truck jack-knifed and caught fire on the northbound lanes of 45 near FM 830, north of Conroe late last night. Investigators say the driver was somehow distracted moments before the accident happened. There was ammunition in the truck. One of the bullets exploded and ricocheted off a fire truck. There was no serious damage. The driver is in the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities say it will take them all morning to clear the accident and is expected to reopen at noon." From: http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8502187
Jay called me about 8.30 AM, and said that he was in Conroe and asked if I would pick him up. That didn't sound good, so his mother and I wondered what he had been up to, as he had been drinking the night before. As I needed to get some Contact Cement, among other things, I said I would.
When I picked him up he said that he had gone with a couple to eat at the Macaroni Grill, but when they started to bring him home, all northbound roads were backed up for miles because of this accident, so they took him back to their place in Conroe.
After Jay and I had perused a couple of thrift shops, where I bought another TV, a 25" one, ($15) for my computer area. The old one's picture has started to go very dark, even though I bought it brand new only 5 years ago. 25" is larger than I need for such a small area, but it works great… for now.
We picked up the gel formula Contact Cement, and a few other items, but the homeward northbound freeway traffic was still backed up as the HazMat team was still cleaning up from the wreck so there was only one lane open.
On that part of the freeway there are trees between the northbound and southbound slabs, or I would have seen the slow traffic on the way to get Jay. So we didn't take another way north on the west side of Conroe, which meanders around winding country roads, but would have put us north of the accident scene.
It took ages to get home, and we knew that the other northbound road to the east of the freeway, would be even worse as it has lots of traffic lights, so we stuck it out.
I hope any packages that you were waiting for, and the ones I am waiting for, weren't in that semi that burned up yesterday.

Wow, I never hear about that accadent. Guess I live a protected life (grin).
